Painting allows me to express what moves me; It both challenges and gives me great satisfaction. I know work is going well when time becomes timeless. Being creative connects me to my ancestors who were sculptors and painters. Their creations filled my childhood home; I feel it in my bones.
For the last decade, I have been experimenting with polymer. I have a vision but there is spontaneity with the pouring of polymer and the painting evolves as the polymer takes on a life of its own; Using paint to hide as well as accentuate exposed layers underneath keeps me curious throughout the process. Recording my own music enabled me to experience how a sound wave could be translated into a visual form and this fascinated me. When I 'throw the glue' in my art making I want my auditory environment or music to influence my movement in the pieces I create. My pieces have evolved from forms inspired by nature to now capturing an energetic moment. As I progress in my art making, I am hoping for an intuitive playfulness and the confidence to let go of a specific outcome. I explore boundaries and push beyond by reducing images to their essential elements. I am becoming more interested in what I can leave out as much as what I can leave in a painting. ‘Less is More’ is what intrigues me both in life and in my painting. If I can look at a painting and see something new time and time again that intrigues me. This work is a journey of constant learning and discovery. |
